The ESAB Ruffian EMP 270G is an inverter-based engine-driven multiprocess welder/generator designed for agricultural equipment, civil construction, equipment rental, offshore oil, pipeline, repair and maintenance, training, and backup or supplementary power. Product number 0707070270 combines up to 270 amps of welding output with an integrated 120/240V generator powered by a Kohler Command PRO CH730 gasoline engine.

The Ruffian supports Stick, TIG, MIG, flux-cored welding and air carbon arc gouging. Stick and gouging output ranges from 20–265 amps, TIG from 20–270 amps, and MIG/flux-cored from 30–270 amps.

At 100% duty cycle, the machine is rated at 235 amps at 29.4 volts for Stick/gouging, 270 amps at 20.8 volts for TIG, and 260 amps at 27 volts for MIG/flux-cored welding. Open-circuit voltage is 94 volts with VRD off and 10 volts with VRD on.

The integrated single-phase generator provides 11 kW peak and 10.5 kW continuous power at 120/240 VAC, 60 Hz. Auxiliary output is independent from the welding current, allowing tools and other electrical equipment to be used while welding.

A 7 in. colour TFT digital display provides process selection and parameter control through an intuitive menu system. Synergic mode helps select optimized welding settings, while maintenance information gives the operator visibility into component service and replacement timing.

For MIG welding, the Ruffian can be paired with an external ESAB RobustFeed AVS wire feeder or an optional Tweco spool gun. Optional Heliarc SR-26V air-cooled TIG torches, foot control, remote control and gouging equipment are also available.

The Kohler Command PRO CH730 is a 23.5 hp, two-cylinder, air-cooled gasoline engine. The machine has an 11-gallon fuel tank, IP23S enclosure rating and a net weight of 425 lb.
